KeySoft 7.2 Maintenance Release Installation Instructions - BrailleNote PK. IMPORTANT: This maintenance release is only for those already running KeySoft 7.2. If you are running an earlier version of KeySoft, upgrade using the instructions on http://www.humanware.com/Resources/KeySoft7.2Upgrade.asp. Either path will give you the latest release. These instructions are for the BrailleNote PK only. There are separate instructions for the mPower and Classic. Ensure that you are using the appropriate instructions. It is essential that you read all of the following instructions before starting the installation. You might like to transfer them to another computer, emboss, or print them for reference during the installation process. Should something go wrong during or after the installation, troubleshooting information is provided at the end of this document. What you will need to install the Maintenance Release. As well as your PK, you will need the following: 1. A CompactFlash (CF) card. This must be at least 32 megabytes in size. 2. An internet connection for downloading the software and a way to copy it onto the CF card. You can download it directly onto the CF card using your PK or download it using a PC with an internet connection and a CF card reader. One of the files is over 13 Megabytes in size, so if you are using a dial-up connection then it will take about 40 minutes. If you have faster access, then it's preferable to use it. Warnings. The following warnings are very important. Please read and follow. HumanWare strongly recommends that you backup your Flash Disk before performing the installation. Throughout the installation, your PK must remain connected via the AC adapter at all times. Do not switch off, reset the unit, or remove the CF card at any time while the installation is in progress. Once the installation commences, you must let it run to completion. Stopping the installation part way through may cause the PK to stop functioning and require you to send it back for service. Downloading the KeySoft 7.2 Maintenance Release Software. You will now need to download two installation files (NK.nb0 and BrailleNote PK Upgrade.exe), and place them onto the CF card. Please follow these instructions to download and copy the KeySoft 7.2 Maintenance Release files to your CF card: 1. On a PC or your PK, go to: http://www.humanware.com//Resources/KeySoft7.2MaintenanceRelease.asp Select the link, "KeySoft 7.2 BrailleNote PK Download (Build 47)" to download NK.nb0. 2. Save the NK.nb0 file to a known location on your PC, or if you are using the PK, download it directly into the top level (root directory) of the CF card. The file is large (around 13 Megabytes) so if you are using a dial- up connection this will take about 40 minutes. 3. From the same web page: http://www.humanware.com//Resources/KeySoft7.2MaintenanceRelease.asp Select the link, "BrailleNote PK Upgrader" to download the file entitled "BrailleNote PK Upgrade.exe". Save it in the same location as NK.nb0. 4. If you have downloaded onto a PC you will then need to copy both files to the top level (root directory) of the CF card. Installing the Maintenance Release. 1. Ensure that your PK is switched on, the AC Adapter is connected, and the CF card is inserted in the card slot at the back. 2. From the Main Menu, press U to select "Utilities". 3. Select "Application Program" from the Utilities Menu by pressing A 4. When prompted for the program to run, select the "Compact Flash" drive. At the "Directory name?" prompt, select the top level (root) directory by pressing dots 3-4, followed by ENTER. 5. When prompted for the program name, access the "List of programs" and choose the file, "BrailleNote PK Upgrade.exe", by pressing SPACE repeatedly and ENTER to select it. 6. When prompted for "Command line?", press ENTER again. Follow the directions and instructions until KeySoft prompts: "Install KeySoft 7.2? (It is recommended that you backup your BrailleNote before installing)." Press Y for Yes or N for No. If you press N, you will return to the Utilities Menu. If you press Y, KeySoft will prompt: "BrailleNote PK upgrade: please wait while installing. To start the installation process, press ENTER." Note that up to this point, all prompts are in both speech and Braille. 7. After you have pressed ENTER, your PK will display "Utilities Menu." The full upgrade process should start, and you will hear beeps every 1 – 2 seconds for a few minutes whilst the unit upgrades. During this time, your PK will continue to display "Utilities Menu." 8. KeySoft will announce and display: "BrailleNote PK upgrade: installation complete. To continue, press reset." Reset your PK by pressing and holding down the two control keys known as C1 and C4 (consult the BrailleNote mPower PK User Guide if you need further details about these keys), until two beeps are heard. This will be followed by the display, "off" and two beeps. 9. Release and hold down C1 and C4 again until two beeps are heard a second time. KeySoft displays: "BrailleNotePK." The Braille display then clears, and a few seconds later KeySoft starts. Check that Version 7.2 Build 47 is shown as the version number. The upgrade procedure is complete once KeySoft returns to the Main Menu. Troubleshooting. If you have any problems during or after the installation, please contact your Distributor.
