BRAILLIANT DRIVERS FOR JAWS FOR WINDOWS 5.1 The zip file in which you found this ReadMe file contains the necessary files to install Brailliant support for JAWS for Windows version 5.1. Because we must manually overwrite the JAWS default keyboard manager file, we cannot guarantee that using these files with versions other than 5.1 will not have unintended consequences. Installation. Please ensure that the Brailliant USB to serial driver is installed on your PC. This was shipped on the CD ROM that came with your Brailliant. Run the setup.exe file contained in the driver archive, and follow the prompts. When this is done, copy default.jkm to your default JAWS folder for jkm files. This will usually be c:\jaws510\settings\enu. At this point, you should be able to restart JAWS and choose Brailliant as a Braille display. You will need to use the Windows Device Manager to determine which com port the Brailliant is using in order to make the correct selection in JAWS. For details on how to do this, please consult the Brailliant Manual. You should also be aware that presently, JAWS for Windows will only allow you to select com1 through com4 through its user interface. If the com port your Brailliant is emulating is a higher number than com4, you will need to edit the jfw.ini file located in c:\jaws510 and change the com port for Brailliant. Be sure to use a text editor, Notepad is recommended, or save the file in plain text.
